The Golden Retriever, shortened to "Retriever" in most instances, is the third breed of dog and fourth predator overall unlocked in Survival Mode.

Biology[]

A retriever is a type of gun dog that retrieves game for a hunter. Golden retrievers were bred to retrieve shot waterfowl such as ducks and upland game birds during hunting and shooting parties. The golden retriever is a large, strongly-built breed with a dense water-repellant wavy coat. They are considered kind, friendly and confident making golden retrievers a very popular breed.

Life as a Retriever[]

The Retriever is the second Non-DLC size 3 predator it is possible to play as. Compared to the Beagle , the Retriever has slightly improved base Life and Hunger, but lower Stamina. Although its low average speed isn't so well compensated for as the Beagle, it is very similar and is best treated in much the same way.

Retrievers as Prey[]

Retrievers are often among the first predators spotted in the early years, and often in many of the same places as the Beagles, although slightly less common. They do seem to appear more often in the Dogenzaka territory than others, however. While they can appear in packs, they are usually quite small, and their low average speed means they're only a real threat to small and slow Grazers or underdeveloped smaller predators. They have the special enemy skill Pack Call, which will allow them to call in more Retrievers as reinforcements if they spot a target. If they do intend to call, it's best to take out the Retriever before it can finish.
